About the Speaker
Jeannie Welliver, City Architect and Development Manager

Jeannie is a native of Richmond and a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Architecture. She also studied Architecture and Urban Planning in the UK at the University of London, the University of Bath and Prince Charles’ Huntington Center. Following Architecture School, she continued her studies at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the McIntire Business Institute.

Jeannie has worked at the City of Richmond for over 26 years as a City Architect overseeing all aspects of project development. Her projects include the 1995 Mosque Theater restoration, the Richmond Police Headquarters, the redevelopment of the 17th St. Farmer’s Market Plaza and the Richmond Slave Trail development including the Reconciliation Statue, the Lumpkin’s Jail Site archaeological excavation and the future development of the Lumpkin’s Jail Site/Devil’s Half Acre.

Her greatest passion and the reason she has stayed committed to work for the City of Richmond is the development of the Main St. Station Multimodal Transportation Center, a $92 million project that began in her first year at the city in 1991 and will take 40+ years to complete all phases and build out for high speed rail.

Her focus today is to provide an overview of Richmond’s Grand Central Station – the Main Street Station, the State of Virginia’s premier welcome/travel center that will include the premier EV Charging Hub along interstate I-95 and adjacent interstate I-64. Main Street Station will also provide an EV Showroom in the new Virginia/Richmond Welcome Center to raise awareness of EV vehicles to tourists, visitors and those that attend major gala events and city sponsored events in the event spaces on site.

The Main Street Station’s train shed second floor includes a grand event space that provides 47,000 SF of open hall event space. By comparison, the grand hall at Grand Central Terminal is 33,000 SF and the grand hall at Washington DC Union Station is 28,500. The Main Street Station grand hall covers a space that can accommodate over 2,000 for dinner. The Head House of the Main Street Station hosts many weddings and smaller corporate functions.
